Vedic astrology has devised quite a few concepts for accurately predicting daily fortune. There is panchang system which gives fairly accurate predictions. Panchang is study of tithi, rashi, nakshatra, yog and karan to find auspicious day. We will cover concept of panchang in a future article. Adding vimshottari dasha periods to panchang reading can further increase chances of accurate prediction.
Relying on daily panchang is suited when individual is not in a hurry to finish task. But there will be times when a particular tasks requires to be finished as quickly as possible. During such times relying on panchang or vimshottari dasha is futile.

Vedic astrology considers a day to last from sunrise to next sunrise. Each day is further divided into two parts:divas known as day in english and ratri known as night in english. Both divas and ratri are further divided into twelve equal parts each and a planet is assigned to each part which is known as hora. So there a total of 24 horas with 12 horas in divas and 12 horas in ratri.
While vedic concept of hora seems remarkably similar to hour of day in gregorian calendar they are somewhat different. Hora is decided by length of day or night. Length of hora may vastly differ during day and night time during different parts of year. For example: Length of day hora around 21st June maybe far bigger than length of hora at night during same time period. On other hand hour in gregorian calendar has fixed 60 minutes assigned to it and doesn't change depending on equinox.
Hora is fairy easy to calculate. Just divide divas and ratri into twelve equal parts each. One needs to assign one planet to each of these twelve equal parts known as hora. Planets are assigned to each hora in fixed order namely Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars. First hora on sunrise is always associated with particular day. For example: On Sunday's the first hora at sunrise will always belong to Sun, on Monday's the first hora at sunrise always belongs to Moon. So on and so forth.
As explained earlier there will always be unavoidable tasks which needs to be finished in short duration of time. Depending on type of tasks doing it in particular hora will provide better results. Planets who rule the hora provide better idea as to which tasks can be undertaken. Below are the different tasks which can be pursued in different horas:
- Sun Hora: Hora of Sun is ideal to start career related tasks, motivate others, hold team and client meetings, take important leadership decisions and visit government office for pending work. This hora is also ideal to talk important issues with father, boss and politicians.
- Moon Hora: Hora of Moon is ideal to pursue leisure activities like dinner dates, movies, family get together, spending quality time with mother, watching television or webseries, bathing/swimming, drinking and enjoying company of friends and family. Moon hora is equally ideal for business activities related to food, hotel and hospitality sector.
- Mars Hora: Hora of Mars is ideal for exercise especially strength training, playing sports and taking part in various competitions. Career related tasks like construction, engineering involving metals and machinery, planning defence and war related strategies and legal actions can also be pursued in Mars Hora.
- Mercury Hora: Hora of Mercury is ideal for career activities which involve marketing, communication, business, paper work, calculating income-expenditure, discussing and preparing contracts and presenting arguments in courts as lawyer. Mercury Hora is also ideal for students especially for studying subjects like mathematics, general knowledge, economics, marketing and law.
- Jupiter Hora: Hora of Jupiter is ideal for students, teachers/lecturers, advisers and for taking guidance from parents, mentors and gurus. Jupiter will allow better understanding of difficult concepts which is beneficial to both teacher and students. Advisers and innovators can better explain their idea or innovation in hora of Jupiter. Jupiter's hora is equally ideal for religious activities and spirituality. Jupiter's hora can help resolve differences with friends, family and with others at workplace. Jupiter's hora is also ideal for planning finances and investments.
- Venus Hora: Hora is Venus is ideal to pursue activities related to arts, fashion, design, music and entertainment. It is the most important hora for matters related to marriage, spouse/lovers, romance and intimacy. Hora of Venus is ideal for dining out in restaurants, watching movies, going on dinner dates, romance and seeking physical pleasures. Hora of Venus is also ideal for beauty treatments and rejuvenation therapies.
- Saturn Hora: Hora of Saturn is ideal for applying jobs in service roles, long-term planning, social service, seeking justice, creating new rules and regulations and starting boring, monotonous and repetitive work. Important to avoid starting new tasks or auspicious work in hora of Saturn as Saturn is known to delay results. Equally important to avoid unnecessary discussions and arguments with family, friends and office colleagues.
