What is Gada Yoga?

Gada Yoga is one of the yogas mentioned in B.V. Raman's book 300 Important Combination. Gada known as mace in english was a training tool which was quite popular in oldern times for combats and strength training. She Hari Vishnu who is considered the provider and preserver in vedic tradition carries a gada named Kaumodaki in his lower right hand.

How is Gada Yoga formed?

Gada Yoga is a very simple yoga which requires planets to be placed in two adjacent vishnu stahanas(quadrants). In simple terms all the planets need to be placed in:

  1. First House and Fourth House.
  2. Fourth House and Seventh House. Yoga formed via this combination is also known as Sanaha Yoga.
  3. Seventh House and Tenth House. Yoga formed via this combination is also known as Vibhuka Yoga.
  4. Tenth House and First House. Yoga formed via this combination is also known as Dhuriya Yoga.

Ofcourse the common term for all the above combination is Gada Yoga. As long as two adjacent quadrants contain all the seven planets namely Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn than Gada Yoga will occur in horoscope.

Note: Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets and not considered for this yoga to fructify.

Remarks On Gada Yoga

Normally Sun, Venus and Mercury move very close to each other in horoscope. As such for Gada Yoga to occur Sun, Mercury and Venus need to be in same quadrant house. Chances of Jupiter and Saturn travelling in same sign are extremely rare. Saturn if placed with Sun, Moon or Mars as co-tenants will give its share of challenges and troubles. Saturn with Sun does the challenging Pitru Dosha, Saturn with Mooon does Vish Yoga while Saturn and Mars together do Sangharsh Yoga which gives a life of difficulties and struggles. Getting success with such troublesome yogas is not easy at all. The fairytale success story associated with Gada Yoga in old astrological text may not be entirely true.
